Summary:

Assists in performing interventional electrophysiology procedures in the cardiovascular and peripheral systems, and heart of patients to aid physician in diagnosis and treatment of heart disorders in the EP Labs. These EP Lab procedures include arrhythmia ablations and device implants, such as, automatic intra-cardiac defibrillators and pacemakers. The EP/Cath lab Technician will also assist during procedures in the cath lab, such as, left heart catherizations, right heart catherizations, coronary interventions such as, atherectomy, angioplasty, stent placement, and other procedures performed with in the cath lab, such as, carotid , renal, and peripheral angiogram and interventions. Provides quality patient care to patients undergoing invasive procedures. Assist EP nurse in the handling and care of patients undergoing these procedures. Prepares patient for test and explains procedures. Conducts tests to aid in diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular systems using a variety of specialized electronic test equipment, recording devices, and laboratory instruments. Anticipates possible problems or complications and responds appropriately. Trains others in techniques and procedures used in the lab. Processes all required documentation, has knowledge of all supplies and the contents of each stockroom.

Responsibilities:
Minimum two years of invasive cardiac procedures within the past three years
Registered Radiologic Technologist or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist
Undergraduate Degree in health related science
Knowledge of cardiac cath, electrophysiology, and interventional procedures pertaining to physics, equipment operation, equipment care, and procedure accessories
Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology
Knowledge of advanced hemodynamics
Proficient medical terminology for documentation purposes
Knowledge of sterile technique and asepsis

Knowledge of contrast media administration, reactions and injection methods
BCLS/ACLS certification
Capable of ordering and maintaining supplies
Knowledge of medical ethics
Good vision, hearing and manual dexterity; ability to transfer patients safely from wheelchair/stretchers to the procedure table
Knowledge of standard procedures in Electrophysiology Laboratory/Cardiac Cath Lab
Knowledge of pacemakers and defibrillators
Critical assessment and planning skills
Superior independent decision making skills in a wide range of situations
Ability to function autonomously, be self motivated and complete tasks in a timely manner
Knowledge of ECG rhythm interpretation
Complete individualized training and continuing staff education through orientation process and competency assessment
Personal computer skills
Interpersonal communication skills with associates, physicians, customers, volunteers, and community individuals
Response time within 30 minutes for on-call
